west coast

We find when we actually visit the places
where Ulysses S. Grant lived, we are
able to picture him more vividly and
understand him more clearly.

So Rory (the writer/researcher) & I (the
webmaster/researcher) visited Fort Vancouver
near Portland, Oregon, to see where
Ulysses Grant lived in 1852-1853.

We then drove down the scenic coast to
Fort Humboldt near Eureka, California —
and tried to imagine Grant’s state of mind
in 1854 before he retired from the Army and
moved back to Missouri.
