103 We let the idea rest…

That fact-finding was fun… Then we traveled to London. It was my (picture, left, is me) FIRST time across the Atlantic… I mostly loved the River Thames…

The River Thames

The River Thames

In the 1500s and 1600s London grew with the expansion of world trade. The wharves of the Pool of London were thick with seagoing vessels.  By the 1700s, the Thames was one of the world’s busiest waterways.
The river sweats
Oil and tar
The barges drift
With the turning tide
Red sails
Wide
To leeward, swing on the heavy spar,
The barges wash
Drifting logs
Down Greenwich reach
Past the Isle of Dogs
